About NOAR:
Based at the University of East Anglia (UEA) the Norfolk Arthritis Register (NOAR) is a large community-based, long-term research study investigating the cause and outcome of inflammation and swelling of the joints (inflammatory polyarthritis). The study recruits people who have developed inflammatory arthritis whilst living in Norfolk. NOAR began collecting data and samples in 1990 and has answered many important research questions.
University of East Anglia (UEA) is responsible for the management of the NOAR study. NOAR is sponsored by the UEA in collaboration with the University of Manchester, working closely with the Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Hospital Trust (NNUH). The research is funded by Versus Arthritis. This study has been reviewed and approved by the East of England Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Research Ethics Committee.
OBJECTIVES: The purpose of the Register is to study the natural history of inflammatory arthritis and identify factors which may be related to the onset of inflammatory arthritis, response to treatment, and to long-term outcomes. Currently NOAR data is looking at whether inflammatory arthritis can increase the risk of cognitive impairment, and how lockdown and COVID 19 restrictions have affected people with arthritis. To find out more about the research questions being addressed by NOAR please go to our website at Norfolk Arthritis Register (uea.ac.uk).
