About NBR:

The Norfolk Biologics Register (NBR) is a new initiative designed to support safe clinical care of patients prescribed biologics involving the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, Norfolk GPs and NHS Norfolk & Waveney integrated care services. Biologics are a group of medicines with a targeted action used to treat conditions such as inflammatory arthritis, Crohn's disease, psoriasis and age-related macular degeneration. The register will mean all people directly involved in your care will have all the information they need in one place irrespective of whether they work in the community or at the hospital.

COHORT: Patients with a history of inflammatory arthritis, Crohn's disease, psoriasis and age-related macular degeneration will be invited to join the register.

PATIENT ENGAGEMENT: Eligible patients will receive a text inviting them to view a lander page with programme information and to opt into the register via a questionnaire linked to their NHS number. Practices involved will be required to send out a BioGUIDE card to patients who opt in via questionnaire. The card will be posted to patients’ GP-registered home addresses and will allow their healthcare teams to securely access their BioGUIDE record.

OUTCOMES:

  • Centralising Patient Care Management: The register will store a patient’s biologic information in one place making it easier for healthcare providers to coordinate care.

  • Reduce DNRs: The register will automatically remind patients and their healthcare team about important tests and check-ups, ensuring they are not missed.

  • Proactive Healthcare: Any health problems caused by a patient’s treatment can be identified more easily and treated earlier.

  • Patient Education: The register will give a patient information to help them to understand and manage their biologic medicines.

  • Gain Healthcare Insights: Data from the register will help the NHS understand which patients benefit most from specific biologics. This will help the NHS to ensure fair access and effective treatment.
